Club History
The Peninsula Speed Skating Club (PSSC) was started in September 2003 by Brenda (Shields) Hennigar. The PSSC hosted its first open house at this time with Olympic long track medalist and world record holder Kevin Overland, who won the bronze medal in the 5oom in Nagano. It was standing room only at the rec centre during this event. Since that opening day the PSSC has been honoured to host such great Canadian Olympians as Catriona LeMay Doan (two time Olympic gold medalist), Christina Groves (four time Olympic medalist), and the Canadian National Long Track Team.

Remembering Ian Hennigar
Peninsula Speed Skating Club would not be what it is today, if not for Ian Hennigar. Ian played an integral role of coaching, mentoring and directing the sport of speed skating in both Ontario and B.C. He coached many skaters to their Olympic and World victories. As countless athletes can attest, Ian was an amazing coach and was the first ever recipient of Speed Skating Canada’s President’s Commendation Award for outstanding contribution to the sport of Speed Skating. Ian passed away in 2016 and will always be remembered for his inspiration, genuine caring-nature and his love for the fastest sport on ice.
